Bond index

An index that is representative of the performance of a bond portfolio composed so as to reflect changes in bond market prices or changes in a sector of the bond market, which is based for example on maturities (short, medium or long-term) or on the category of issuers (government debt, corporations).

Examples of bond indexes are the DEX Universe Bond Index in Canada, the Lehman Brothers Aggregate Bond Index in the U.S., and the EuroMTS Global, a euro-denominated bond index that measures the performance of the Eurozone government debt market where the debt instruments have a broad range of maturities.
